While on my recent trip to Disney World, I saw a new Snow Whit shirt I hadn't seen in the very back of one of the stores in the German pavilion in Epcot. I actually was going to pass it by when I noticed that it said Snow White, in German!

A cute touch to the back of the shirt
Not headed to Disney World any time soon? It's on the Shop Disney Parks App!
Upon returning from my family vacation in Florida, I've done some reflecting. One thing I kept noticing was how much arguing I was seeing among families, especially as it got into late evening. My family and I commented on how we were having a great time with no augments to be had! It is completely understandable to find yourself in sour mood when you are at the happiest place on Earth on a 10 out of 10 crowd day! So, how did my family do it? Here are my top tips for managing a theme park on a crowded day.
1. Manage expectations.
You are not going to ride it all. You are not going to see it all. Decide what you must do and then be prepared to wait for it. Going in knowing that you may only ride three rides the entire day will really help you manage your exceptions on truly crowded days.
2. Use FastPass Plus
I booked our trip well into the Fast Pass plus window so by the time I logged in, I was unable to get Flight of Passage Fast passes. However, I was able to get every other attraction we really wanted. And we went in with the expectation that those might be the only rides we get on that day - and that was okay with us. While we wanted to ride Flight of Passage, our family would not wait over three hours to do so. It will just have to wait until next time.
3. Use Mobile Ordering
On our Magic Kingdom day, Pinocchio's Village Haus was the spot chosen for Lunch. The line was well out the door on onto the walk way. There were cast members posted at every entrance to make sure people weren't going in the wrong way and weren't getting tables without food. Luckily, my family had placed our order on my phone while waiting in line earlier that day the meet Donald and Goofy. As we walked to the restaurant, I submitted our order. By the time we arrived it was ready for pick-up. I was directed to one of the exit doors where I showed the mobile order to the cast member and she sent me right in and directly to the counter where my food was ready to pick up! I asked for a few glasses of water and we were ready to eat. Guests in line still had a thirty minute wait to get to the counter!
We used the mobile ordering every day, and by the end of the trip, we only ate at places where we could mobile order. Use it!
4. Use the in park 'quests'
Magic Kingdom, Epcot, and Animal Kingdom all have what I like to call 'quests'. In Magic Kingdom there is the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Game. In Epcot the Agent P's World Showcase Adventure. In Animal Kingdom the Wilderness Explorer program. All of these are free programs that the whole family can do! This was my seventh trip to Disney World and I have never done any of these before. But with lines longer that we were willing to wait, these alternative activities are great!
We had a blast in the Magic Kingdom - start at the fire station to get a card pack and start your game. From there you are directed to different locations to start your quest. We started playing this game around seven pm and there were no lines at the locations! In fact, others who were tiredly milling about were surprised to see the windows come to life!
In Epcot we participated in the Chip and Dale ornament spree rather than Agent P's adventure. Epcot has a variety of hunts throughout the year - usually tied to a festival - where you search for things located in each country. This activity does have a fee - 6.99 for ours - and you get a 'prize' at the redemption location at the end.
Wilderness Explorer program in Animal Kingdom has the added benefit of helping you learn about the things you see. Keep in mind this program does not run all day - it ends before dusk.
5. Allow extra time for transportation
On peak days, buses get full. If you have a fast pass you can't miss or a dinner reservation, be sure to give ample time to arrive at your park. Keep in mind there is a 15 minute grace period after your fast pass ends, but then you are out of luck.
6. Use a crowd calendar
I picked our parks based on Touring Plans crowd calendar. On Christmas Day we were in Epcot. The most popular park that day, Magic Kingdom, closed for a while because it was at capacity. When I start planning a trip, I pick my park days based on which one is the lowest crowd prediction. This may or may not be the park with extra magic hours! If you have a park hopper, use it to get out when crowds get bad.
7. Don't push it
One of the hardest things for me is that I want to maximize time in the parks. After all, I've traveled all this way! However, going from park open to close on busiest days is a fast way to wear on your nerves. When you are tired, call it a night! Getting sleep is important for your body and your mind on peak days.
8. It is a resort - not just theme parks
One of the best things we did this trip was go to Winter Summerland and miniature golf! We arrived at opening and had so much fun, we did two rounds! There are so many things to do all around the resort and at the hotels - take advantage of them!
9. Don't wait to go
By go, I mean to the bathroom! The parks were so busy, there was always a line at the women's restroom. You can really get yourself in a pickle if you wait until you're 'full' and then have to wait ten minutes.
10. Compliment
Finally, keep a list of cast members who make a difference during your trip. If you are feeling grumpy because of the crowds, imagine what it's like for the cast. I keep a memo in my phone and when a cast member went above and beyond - help us carry a lunch tray, a custodial staff in the restroom pointing out open stalls, and a photopass photographer who explained the app. Write down the name on the name tag, the date, location, and time. You can of course, thank them in person, but an even better way is to get them an official thanks. When you get home, send an email to: WDW.Guest.Communications@disneyworld.com I sent mine yesterday and got a lovely reply that same day. The cast members will get recognition in their file and their leadership will be told. It really is a great way to end your trip!
What I have been hoping for (and my wallet has been dreading) has happened! Dooney and Bourke has released a Snow White collection! These can be found at Disney World and at the Disney Parks App. What do you think? Are they worth the high price tag?
Last June I had one of my best vacations ever on the Disney Dream. While in Florida I took the opportunity to go to the Character Outlet located near the Disney Resort. I was surprised at how many Snow White items I found! While I usually refuse to leave the theme parks while I Florida, this was the perfect chance for me. Getting a Uber ride over to the outlets from our resort was very easy. I picked up a few treasures while we were there. Please note that merchandise turns over very quickly, so you never know what you'll find. For more up to date information check out the monthly outlet report on Touring Plans Blog (one of my favorite blog writers - I love the indignation at original Disney prices and strange merchandise that appears!)
Earlier this year Disney released the Shop Disney Park App. I've become a fan of shopping on the app. They run free shipping specials often and it is great to get park merchandise without having to make the trip. While recently browsing I saw these items to put together a great Disney bound style look.
I really like the items, but am not a fan of purchasing clothes on-line. So I purchased the purse and the Snow White ears. I was so excited to see official Snow White ears! I have made my own (read about how here), but what could be better than Disney's?
The purse is great. It is really cute and the the details are great.
The Shop Disney App did not state that the Snow White ears are actually children's sized. In addition, it really is a baby blue and pink - not royal blue and red. So overall, I'm very disappointed with them.
The color of the official ears to the ones I made.
Says youth right there on the tag - that really should be stated in the app
Today's post has nothing to do with Snow White, but it is definitely Disney related! I love getting mail, but so often it is just boring junk mail and lots of evil bills. SO, I am thrilled to have received my first Mickey Monthly Box! I have gotten on the subscription box wagon and signed up for a snack only box. While I live in Southern California, I don't make it to Disneyland as much as I would like (and with passes on the rise, it looks like it will go back to a once a year trip for me). Anyway, I saw this box and thought it was perfect for me!
Here is the description of the box I signed up for:
"Monthly snacks and treats from Disney World, automatically delivered directly to your door, every month. We hand-pick each package from a large selections of WDW treats you can only get from your favorite vacation destination (until now)."
I lucked out and signed up in the month of September when they were running a special: a free Tsum Tsum and a Mickey rice crispy treat! My package level includes two to three treats each month...so here is what I got:
What a great box to open! Those sour balls are one of my favorite of all time! I miss the green only bag - but red is my second favorite color!
So I got four treats this month: Rock candy, Sour cherry balls, shortbread cookies, and, my favorite, the Donald Halloween bag with sour gummy pumpkins! And check out the Ursula Tsum Tsum.
Overall, I am excited about receiving this box each month! When I signed up, I wasn't sure if I would continue to the subscription. But after opening my box and seeing all the goodies, I think I will keep the subscription for the time being.
A few Saturday nights ago we were looking for something to watch on TV when we ran across this movie:
I have always enjoyed this film. As I sat watching it for the umteenth time, I got to thinking - what would I do with this situation?
Here is a refresher of the plot:
30 million dollars in 30 days - you can't tell anyone what your doing, you can't own anything new, you can't buy anything to destroy, you must get value for the services paid, and you can donate only 5% to charity and 5% can be gambled.
This got me to seriously thinking - could one do this challenge a take an ultimate around the world Disney vacation - could you spend that much at Disney in thirty days? My thought is - absolutely!
First up, I'd donate the 5% - $1,500,000 - to charity. I will put my personal plug here (and non-Disney related) and I'd donate to the Michael Hoefflin Foundation. I'm not much of a gambler - so I'd skip that option and start planning the trip of a lifetime.
$28,500,000 in 30 days - let's go!
The trip will hit Disney theme park destinations - Orlando, Paris, Tokyo, Hong Kong, and Anaheim - and Hawaii (for good measure). Six destinations in 30 days means five days per location.
I am calculating prices based on two people using all kinds of Disney and fan websites - so let's spend some fictional money!
Up first Orlando -
Room for 5 nights in the Royal Asante Presidential Suite (around $2,600 a night) - $13,000
Theme park admission for 5 days with water park and more and park hopping - ($431.33 per person) - $862.33 (for 2 people)
Platinum Dining plan ($254 a day - for two people) - $5,080
Private Premium VIP tour - ($600 an hour) - 8 hours a day for the five days - $4,800
So that brings our total for the Orlando leg to around $23,800
Next Paris -
Room for 5 nights in the Sleeping Beauty Presidential Suite in the Disneyland Paris Hotel (around $3,839 a night) - $19,195
Theme park admission - ($259 per person) - $518
Assuming the VIP tour is around the same in Orlando - $4,800 for 5 days
Dining - Let's budget 200 a day per person - $2,000
That brings the Paris total to $26,513
Tokyo
Room for 5 nights in the Walt Disney Suite in Tokyo Disneyland Hotel (500,000 yen a night) - 2,500,000 yen
Theme park admission with extra park hopping (22,800 yen per person) - 45,600 yen
VIP tour (at around 21,000 yen for 3 hours) for 9 hours a day for five days - 31,500 yen
Dining - a full dinner at Magellan's runs 7500 yen - so lets use that for our meals - 225,000 yen
Our Tokyo total is then 2,779,300 yen which, according to Google, will be $22,665.97
Hong Kong
Room for 5 nights in a Hong Kong Kingdom Club Suite (9,564 HKD a night) - 47,820 HKD
Theme park admission - 4,990 HKD
VIP tour (4,688 HKD for first 3 hours and 1,300 HKD for additional hour) - 55,940 HKD for the 5 days
Dining - again, budgeting for big spender meals - $2,000
So - looking at around $20,000.
Hawaii
Room for 5 nights in the Ahu Ula Suite (around 3,726 a night) - $18,630
Spending money for the spa and excursions - 900 a day per person - $4,500
Dining - $2,000
Our total for Hawaii is now $25,130
Anaheim
Room for 5 nights in one of the Disneyland Hotel penthouses - have you seen those rooms?? - ($3,500 a night) - $17,500
Theme park tickets $630 for a 5 day park hopper
VIP tour $355 an hour - $14,200
Dining -$2,000
The Disneyland total is $34,330
After calculating all of these locations I am surprised to find that they are all around $30,000 for the five days. I'm rounding that up to $35,000 for taxes and tips. So for thirty days the total goes to $210,000. I honestly thought this would be much more! So, now I'm thinking - let's make this a party! How about 50 of my best Disney pals? Now we've spent - $12,250,000
We have $16,250,000 left to spend.
Next - hire a private jet to fly us all around the world and private car service to go to and from airports and destinations. Because we can! Let's budget 60K for each flight and with 7 flights, it will cost us something like $420,000. We'd need at least 14 limo rides to and from airports and if the rides cost about $350 that would be at least $5,000. But we are bringing 50 people! So we're looking at at least $25,000. Of course, we'd need a private photographer to document to the trip. I'm sure there is some Disney fan professional photographer that would sign up for the trip! Let's hire someone (or two?) to document the trip and budget $100,000. So for transportation and documentation - let's budget $1,000,000.
That still leaves $15,250,000. I'm surprised at how much is left! Now there might be more expensive ways to roll through cash at Disney that only the high rollers know, but 30 million truly is a huge some of money!
How about just renting out all of Disneyland for the last day and throwing a huge party? Think 15 million will cover it?
Or maybe just rent a cruise boat for the month? Maybe 30 million would cover it?
Last week I got my Fantasyland Fighting Seven T-shirt:
About a month ago Disney Parks Blog ran a contest and the Disney Store On-line sold shirts to go along with the contest (read more about the March Magic here). Sadly, the boys didn't win the competition, but they put up a good fight!
On Friday, Walt Disney World and Disneyland ran their 24-hour kick off to summer party. You can purchase the Disneyland Dopey up all night shirt on the Disney Store website until May 31st. I ordered mine, pictures to come!
I have been planning an upcoming trip to the Disneyland hotel and while checking out the Disney floral and gifts website I saw this beautiful bouquet:
The Fairest of the All bouquet is full of flowers inspired by the colors of Snow White's dress and includes a special pin. It is $160.95 with an additional $10 delivery fee. The bouquet is available for delivery at a Disneyland or Walt Disney World Resort.
Disney Parks Blog has rolled out a Disney Side March Magic competion. You can vote for your favoirte East coast and West coast attractions to see who will reign supreme.
I'm of course on the Fightin' Seven Team!
To add even more magic...you can purchase a limited edition shirt for each team, but only as long as the team remains in the voting completion from Disney Store Online. Once it has been knocked out, you won't be able to order it any more. I bought my shirt earlier this week!
Recently there have been a ton of fun shaped popcorn buckets hitting the Disney theme parks (especially Tokyo). I was so thrilled and jealous to see a Seven Dwarfs Mine Train bucket hit the scene in the last month or so. Well, thanks to a kind Florida resident, I am now the proud owner of Mine Train bucket complete with popcorn! Quite the feat for a Cali resident like myself!
There are lots of Snow White references throughout Walt Disney world. There is one theme park, however, where I could not find one: Disney's Animal Kingdom. Snow and the boys do not fit into the theme of this park at all and I am glad to see that they are not there.
There a few other Snow White references that I didn't get a chance to visit and photograph on this trip. At the All Star Movies Resort there is a reference in one of the windows of the gift shop - Donald's Double Features - and a reference in the World Premiere Food Court.
On my recent trip to Walt Disney World I wanted to obtain the Snow White related smashed pennies. This is no easy feat. The pennies are spread throughout the entire resort - theme parks and hotels. I used the smashed penny list from my planning binder to make sure I knew where to look. Armed with my list, I made it to quite a few of the pennies this trip.
Dopey in Panchito's Gift Shop at Disney's Coronado Springs
Snow White in Sir Mickey's in Magic Kingdom
Dopey Quarter in the Emporium in the Magic Kingdom
Snow White quarter in the Contemporary Lobby
Sneezy in the Polynesian Lobby
Snow White in the Wilderness Lodge Lobby
Happy at Fort Wilderness - take the water taxi from Magic Kingdom and it is in front of the store right there when you get off
Doc inside the Land Pavilion in Epcot
Snow White in Oscar's Super Service in Disney's Hollywood Studios
Prince holding Snow White in Downtown Disney's World of Disney
There were a few I did not get to:
Port Orleans Riverside - Riverside Mills Food Court - the Prince and Sleepy
Port Orleans Riverside - Lobby - the Queen and Grumpy
Yacht and Beach Club - Arcade - Bashful
Downtown Disney is undergoing a lot of change right now, but there are a lot of Snow White references throughout the area.
First stop is Disney's Days of Christmas where you will find on the seventh day of Christmas (of course) the dwarfs!
In Once Upon a Toy, you will find the Wishing Well on a monopoly board behind a cash wrap
In the Market Place Co-Op, the Beautifully Disney logo featuring the queen and Snow White is on the wall
If you go into Guest Realtions, Snow White is on the wall with other sample photos
Next stop is the World of Disney:
Villains Room
Princess Room
Princess Room
Some of the windows outside feature dresses made out of dolls (no Snow White) but look closely at the frame - yup- the mirror
Outside the Lego store are a few of my favorite Lego displays...ever!
In D- Street you can find the magic mirror on a vinylmation cutout.
Disney's Candy Cauldron is just awesome!
Even with the signage, there is still a line to buy apples...
Speaking of candy, a walk back to where we started will get you to Goofy's Candy Company where you can find the periodic table of elements - Disney Style! This is one of my favorites!
