Typo Celebrates Snow White's 80th

I went in my first Typo store in the Spectrum Center in Irvine, California and I fell in love!  At the time, they had an adorable Mickey Mouse line and the To-Do list pad I bought is still a staple at work for me.

I love this to-do list!  I bought four notepads to last me four years at work!

I was thrilled to get an email announcing that Typo is releasing another Disney line - featuring Snow White!  Check out my favorite items but be sure to check out the whole line!

WonderGround Gallery Artist Jackie Huang

I love the original art that appears in WonderGround Gallery.  Sometimes an artist's interpretation is so unexpected it is fascinating and other times I don't understand it at all.  One artist that I've been taken with is Jackie Huang.  I have several prints of hers and was thrilled to meet her at WonderCon this spring.  While I was talking with her, she mentioned that I should be sure to check out the gallery in August as she was doing some princess pieces.  Well, she did even better than that - check out her piece from the gallery!

The seven dwarfs!  It is hard to tell from my photo - but her work is all done by paper piecing - tiny pieces built on top of each other creating an amazing 3D piece.  Unfortunately the original had already sold by the time I got there, so I never did get to see it (or be faced with the decision to purchase it).  I did however get a chance to talk with her and have her sign a print and a postcard.  Her website has a much more detailed photo - be sure to check it out!

The Rise and Fall of Deafy

Before the final seven dwarfs were cast, there were many others that didn't make the cut.  One such fellow is Deafy.  According to J. B. Kauffman in his book The Fairest One of All, Deafy was the unused dwarf list that came the closest to making it.  Each dwarf has their own gag (Sneezy's monster sneezes and Doc's ability to mix words up) and Deafy, was naturally, hard of hearing.  At one point they artists discussed having Deafy carry a horn, but that idea was ultimately rejected by Walt.  It might have been fun to see Deafy in the scene where the dwarfs are inspecting the cottage after the apparent break-in.  The dwarfs' search would have been constantly interrupted by having to explain everything to Deafy several times.  Deafy was still on outlines all the way through 1935 but, in the end, Deafy was replaced by Sneezy.  There have been a few explanations of why he was dropped: the constant explaining would slow down the plot or the final dwarf line-up did not include any physical afflictions.

I was wandering around Walmart when I saw these:

I couldn't pass them up - they were only $9.98!  How perfect are they?  They are just like the gems the dwarfs mine.  I am going to have to throw a Seven Dwarfs party at some point, but for now, I have them on my wishing well.

The Fightin' Seven

Disney Parks Blog has rolled out a Disney Side March Magic competion.   You can vote for your favoirte East coast and West coast attractions to see who will reign supreme.
I'm of course on the Fightin' Seven Team! 
To add even more magic...you can purchase a limited edition shirt for each team, but only as long as the team remains in the voting completion from Disney Store Online.  Once it has been knocked out, you won't be able to order it any more.  I bought my shirt earlier this week!

Throwback photo: Disney Store Plush

I recently ran across this photo and just had to share:

Years ago, the Disney Store sold giant dwarfs - all seven of them.  I knew I had to have them!  One of my dad's co-workers had one of those magic Disney cast member discount cards (her husband worked for the company) and she was my father's go to for getting any must have materials for his dear daughter.  Apparently she went out to the Disney Store on her lunch break looking for the giant dwarfs, not realizing how very giant they were.  After several trips to her car, she had gotten all seven for me.  Then she made several more trips and brought them all upstairs in their office conference room and set them up.  When the team got together for their next meeting, there was already one in progress!  My dad snapped the picture to show me.  Note that Bashful is running the show.

Getting Crafty: Seven Dwarfs Fabrics

Recently I've been reading about how hard it's been for Jo-Ann's to keep Frozen fabric on the shelves.  Well, I'm thrilled to have found some great Seven Dwarfs fabrics!  Over the years I've seen (and bought) many fabrics with the lovely Snow White herself, but I many with the dwarfs.  Especially those that do not have directionality to the print.  I bought a bunch of each type and now am awaiting inspiration to strike as to what I want to make. 

I love this one...so fantastic! It's a flannel fabric, maybe a future theme park purse?
