The Fightin' Seven

Disney Parks Blog has rolled out a Disney Side March Magic competion.   You can vote for your favoirte East coast and West coast attractions to see who will reign supreme.
I'm of course on the Fightin' Seven Team!
To add even more magic...you can purchase a limited edition shirt for each team, but only as long as the team remains in the voting completion from Disney Store Online.  Once it has been knocked out, you won't be able to order it any more.  I bought my shirt earlier this week!

Finding Snow White Pennies in Walt Disney World

On my recent trip to Walt Disney World I wanted to obtain the Snow White related smashed pennies.  This is no easy feat.  The pennies are spread throughout the entire resort - theme parks and hotels.  I used the smashed penny list from my planning binder to make sure I knew where to look.  Armed with my list, I made it to quite a few of the pennies this trip.
Dopey in Panchito's Gift Shop at Disney's Coronado Springs
Snow White in Sir Mickey's in Magic Kingdom
Dopey Quarter in the Emporium in the Magic Kingdom
Snow White quarter in the Contemporary Lobby
Sneezy in the Polynesian Lobby

Snow White in the Wilderness Lodge Lobby
Happy at Fort Wilderness - take the water taxi from Magic Kingdom and it is in front of the store right there when you get off
Doc inside the Land Pavilion in Epcot
Snow White in Oscar's Super Service in Disney's Hollywood Studios
Prince holding Snow White in Downtown Disney's World of Disney

There were a few I did not get to:
Port Orleans Riverside - Riverside Mills Food Court - the Prince and Sleepy
Port Orleans Riverside - Lobby - the Queen and Grumpy
Yacht and Beach Club - Arcade - Bashful

Finding Snow White in Magic Kingdom

With the recent changes in Fantasyland, Snow White has a whole new presence in the Magic Kingdom.  Of course, I'm talking about the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train!  I love this ride.  The imagineers did such a great job combining the fun of a roller coaster with the classic dark ride.

It is totally worth the wait!
This was the only picture I took on the attraction.  I recommend just enjoying the ride!
Other than this headline attraction, where else can you find Snow White references?
* The Emporium has classic Disney windows.  Be sure to check out the Snow White window.
* If you visit Fairy Tale Hall in Fantasyland, be sure to find Snow White's portrait and book.
* When watching wishes, listen for Snow White's wish.
* At one time there was a photo op in exposition hall on main street, but I do not believe it is still there.

The last places to find Snow White is Sir Mickey's and the Emporium for...pennies!

Golden Anniversary Reunion

For part of Snow White's 50th anniversary the theme parks (Disneyland and Magic Kingdom) held a reunion of the actresses who had played the character in the theme parks. By 1987 over a hundred women had portrayed Disney's first princess.  Fifty came to the event at Disneyland and 24 were present at the Magic Kingdom.
The first Snow White in the park was actually not a Disneyland employee; she worked for ABC.  Disney had been able to track down the other ladies that portrayed the princess by using personnel records but it was not until a friend of the first Snow White heard about the search that JoAnn Killingsworth became part of the event.  She portrayed Snow White on opening day and appeared in Dateline: Disneyland, the opening day TV special.  By 1987 she was 63 and working in a Neiman-Marcus in Newport Beach.
Naturally, the heartwarming story of Beth Bond was popular with the press.  Snow White in 1978, she married her Prince in 1985, literally.  Her husband, Joe Sczempka, played Prince in the park.
Herald-Journal, The Courier, Ancorage Daily News, and The Bulletin all ran articles covering the event.  For information about other various women who have brought Snow White to life in a variety of ways read this article on Mouse Planet.
