They Made the Magic: Izzy Klein

Isadore "Izzy" Klein was born on October 12,1897 in Newark, New Jersey.  he attended the national Academy of New York and the Art Students League.  By 1916 he had joined Wiliam Randolph Hearst international Film Service as an animator.  There he met Grim Natwick, Jack King, and Burt Gillett.  In 1918, Klein went to work for Barre-Bowers Studios working on the Mutt and Jeff cartoons.  In 1925, Klen went to work as a free-lance cartoonist but by 1934 he returned to animation working at the Van Geuren Studio.  When the studio close he went to work for Columbia Pictures.  It was in 1936 that Klein joined Disney.  Klen related that when he made the decision to work for Disney he talked to Ted Sears.  Sears set the ground work so when Klein called, he got an appointment to talk with Walt Disney.

At Disney Klein worked as an animator and storyman.  He worked on shorts such as Mother Goose Goes Hollywood and Lonsesome Ghosts just to name a few.

He left Disney in 1939 to work for Mintz and then later Paul Terry.  He penned the cartoon Might Mouse.  In the late 40's he went to work for Paramaount to work on Casper, Little Audrey, Little Lulu, and Popeye.  He retired from animation in the 1960's.  Klein is credited as I. Klein, Izzy Dlein, and I. Klien.  He died in 1986.

Packing for Disney World...Snow White Style

If you follow my blog, you know that I am planning a trip to Disney World soon.  I have shared my tips for planning and my Disney World planning binder.  Now onto the final stage....what does every Snow White fan need to pack for a Disney Theme Park trip?

Snow White custom Mickey Ears! See previous post on how to make these.

Snow White makeup from ELF, Evil Queen from MAC, and chap stick too!  You must look your best for all those photographs!

The bag on the left is for theme park touring that I bought at a craft fair, the middle bag is to hold all that make-up, and the right bag by LoungeFly for my carry on and a trick or treat bag for the Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party.

My Snow White Disney Bounding outfit for the Halloween Party.

A close up of the accessories...isn't the bird ring perfect!

An assortment of Snow White shirts to wear around the parks.

Dopey lanyard for pin trading.

A handy list of all the locations of smashed pins (I like pressed coins site)

The list of where to meet Snow White (I use Kenny the Pirate's site to make sure my list is up to date)

Of course, there are a few other items that are needed to take on a Disney World trip that may not be Snow White related.  Here are a few of my must brings:

 * Cardboard mailer: I bring this to put any paper souvenirs (post cards, park maps...) in.  This way they don't get bent!

* External Battery Charger: I looooove mine!  Keep connected all day without having to find a recharge station.

* Pennies and quarters: for the machine!

* Power Strip: I got one that takes one plug and converts it into three plugs with addition usb slots.

* Glow Sticks: I love the old fashion glow sticks - they don't even sell this style anymore in parks.  At Walmart a pack of five bracelets is 97 cents!

*Tablet: besides the usual functions, I keep a master excel spreadsheet in Google Drive that lists my collection and photos of each item.  This becomes so helpful when I look at a souvenir and think...do I have that?  I find myself wondering that often about the postcards and small buttons in the theme parks.

Naturally there are the regular items to travel with too that you'd take on any trip.  The most important item?  The empty bag to bring home souvenirs in!

Getting Crafty: Seven Dwarfs Fabrics

Recently I've been reading about how hard it's been for Jo-Ann's to keep Frozen fabric on the shelves.  Well, I'm thrilled to have found some great Seven Dwarfs fabrics!  Over the years I've seen (and bought) many fabrics with the lovely Snow White herself, but I many with the dwarfs.  Especially those that do not have directionality to the print.  I bought a bunch of each type and now am awaiting inspiration to strike as to what I want to make.

I love this one...so fantastic! It's a flannel fabric, maybe a future theme park purse?

This print is much larger and a fleece.  Perfect to make a blanket with!
For those less crafty inclined: this is a no sew fleece throw

In the News This Week: Drawing Grumpy and Seven Dwarfs Ride Video

This week the Disney Park Blog has some great posts this week for us Snow White Fans. (Be sure to take a look at the banner art on the web page - right now they are all fall themed and one of them features great art from Snow White's Scary Adventure).

I'm thrilled to learn that the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will now offer an on ride video for guests with magic bands and the memory makers package. I can't wait to see first hand how it works!  I will be posting all about it when I get back from my trip soon.

Disney also posted a video from their learn to draw series that features...Grumpy!  I would love to see the dwarfs go into rotation at the Animation Academy attractions.

Disney Mickey Mouse Season 1

Have you seen the newest Mickey Mouse cartoons? I hadn't until I picked up the season 1 DVD last week. These are terrific! I love the old school feel of the cartoons and the references to other characters.  For example, Cinderella, Belle, and Beast make cameos. But lesser known characters like Jose Carioca and Willie the Whale can be spotted too. The cartoons are set around the world and on the DVDs bonus feature the creators describe how they made sure the cartoons are not dialogue dependent. I really enjoyed these 30s inspired shorts.
The reason I bring it up here is that there is one Snow White reference. On the valentines day episode called Third Wheel, Goofy crashes Mickey and Minnie's date.  The background music in the romantic restaurant... Some Day My Prince Will Come.

Snow White Personalized Stationary

I was reading my latest issue of Real Simple magazine when I noticed an add featuring some great Snow White personalized stationary.  Expressionery.com has lots of Disney stationary and several options for our gal.  The magazine features a code for $10 off your order.

Snow White folded cards

Snow White book plate labels (comes with 3 designs)

Snow White flat cards

Princess Snow White invitations

Princess Pattern Snow White

Snow White Address Stamp

I also looked on the Checks in the Mail website.  My personal address stamp features grumpy seen below (seemed fitting to use that on all those bills!) and I've had lots of comments on my checks over the years.  They also have the book labels.
