That's From Disneyland Auction

That's From Disneyland was a pop-up exhibit that promoted the Van-Eaton Gallery auction.  It was an amazingly well done exhibit that was a lot of fun to see!  So here is a wrap up on the prices that went the Snow White items went for;

These Disneyland Gloves have Happy and Bashful on them.  They were valued around 100 and went for $700

I really wanted this one!  The Parking sign was valued at 400 and went for $6,500

Valued at 5,000 this ride car went for 30,000

This model of the transformation scene was valued at 5,000 and went for $2,500.  What a steal!

This Melty Snow White (it was damaged in storage) was a trending picture online.  Valued at 400 it went for $12,000.

The Hag was valued at 600 and went for $3,200

This little sign was on my shopping list (well, my dream shopping list) valued at 800, it went for $22,500.  Whaaaa?

These two Disneykins postcards were valued at 200 and went for $700
There were also two drawings that went for 2,350 and 3,250.  One was a brownline sketch of the attraction and the other was concept art of the ride car.

E Ticket Magazine

There was a wonderful fan magazine published from 1986 to 2009.  I have been slowly accumulating all the issues and am currently missing only three more issues.  Two issues featured Snow White's Scary Adventures - issue 4 and 13.  While I'm still waiting to find issue 4, I have issue 13.

It's a very interesting look into the original attraction before it was update.

While you can no longer buy very early issues, you can purchase them on CD-Rom.  The Walt Disney Family Museum acquired all the content to the magazine and you can now purchase back issues as well as the CDS.

In the News This Week: Drawing Grumpy and Seven Dwarfs Ride Video

This week the Disney Park Blog has some great posts this week for us Snow White Fans. (Be sure to take a look at the banner art on the web page - right now they are all fall themed and one of them features great art from Snow White's Scary Adventure).

I'm thrilled to learn that the Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will now offer an on ride video for guests with magic bands and the memory makers package. I can't wait to see first hand how it works!  I will be posting all about it when I get back from my trip soon.

Disney also posted a video from their learn to draw series that features...Grumpy!  I would love to see the dwarfs go into rotation at the Animation Academy attractions.

Book Review: 3500 An Autistic Boy's Ten-Year Romance with Snow White

Recently I read a book all about a boy named Ben: 3500 An Autistic Boy'sTen-Year Romance with Snow White.  Many fans of Snow White's Scary Adventures in Florida know about Ben, in fact, he can claim the title of being this former attractions biggest fan.  This autistic young man was the last person to ride Snow White's Scary Adventure before it closed forever, making a grand total of 3,500 trips.

The Disney fan community has been following Ben for some time.  Check out Filmic Light's posts about Ben (part 1, part 2, part 3, and part 4).   You can see Ben's final (well, final Public ride) on this Attractions Magazine post.

The book is a very honest look at what it has been like to be the father of a child with Autism.  Every case is different, every child different, and through this book, you really get to cheering for this family.  This heart warming story takes you through their daily life and the connection that was forged with others and the attraction.  It's a really great read written by Ben's father, who also maintains a blog: shmoolok.  It was one of those books, that I just wanted to keep reading, because I was rooting so much for Ben and was proud of the fan community and cast members for making sure this young man was the last one to ride.

They Made the Magic: Ken Anderson

Born in Seattle on March 17, 1909, Anderson orginally studied as an architect.  He atteded school in Washington and then got a scholarship to study in Europe. His original ambition was to be an architect, but after not finding a job opening, he worked at MGM as a draftsman.
He began his Disney career in 1934 on a whim; he was driving by and his wife suggested he try Disney, and that was that.  While there he held the titles in: art direction, art supervision, story, color, styling, layout, production and character development.  It was Anderson who related the events of that famous meeting where Walt acted out the story of Snow White, in fact, Anderson related that they animators waited for Walt to act out the next story, be he never put on a performance like he did with Snow White.
Anderson related the story of that fateful evening to Don Peri:
"One night after we had been doing shorts,Walt gave us sixty-five cents for dinner, and the fifty of us in animation went across the street to Ma Applebaum's.  I got a dinner - most of us did - for fifty cents and saved the fifteen.  Then we came back to the little sound stage.  Ward Kimball and I sat next to one another.  Walt was in a subdued light on the main floor.  At one end of this grotto-like sound stage, there were seven or eight rows of seats baked rather steeply to a projection booth behind and a little screen across.  Then there was just like a dance floor, quite long and narrow, ad the lights didn't completely light this auditorium.  Walt had this whole thing for his stage.  He had thought out and dreamed this whole Snow White business.  We didn't know that.  He spent whatever time we got back from dinner - 6:30, 7:00- until nearly midnight acting and not only describing the plot and the picture, but acting out the individual characters and the parts.  He lit such a fire under those of us who were there that it never occurred to us we were ever going to do anything else in our whole lives except that picture" - Working with Walt pg.135
As art director Anderson worked on the scene where Grumpy's nose comes up over the bed as well as the 'party' at the dwarf's cottage, and the dream sequence that wasn't used.  Dopey's wiggling ears were developed by Anderson based on his own talent to do it too.  He experimented with the mutliplane camera and built a model of the dwarfs' cottage.  Like many of the other guys, Anderson would stay late - until midnight - and on the weekends, working on Snow White.  In fact Anderson felt that Snow White was the best they ever did.
Anderson was promoted to art director on Pinocchio, then production designer on 101 Dalmatians, and character development as well as art director on Jungle book.
In addition, Anderson designed  major portion of Disneyland's Snow White; it was the first attraction he worked on.  The idea was that guests would be Snow White and experience what she experienced.  However, after fifteen years of guests wondering where Snow White was, they made some changes to the attraction.  While working on Story book land, Anderson knew Snow White's cottage needed trees.  The trees they had were 12 feet tall, which in scale, would be 120 feet tall.  So instead Anderson found some redwood trees that were starved because they grew on a rock ledge and not getting the nutrients they need.  Van Damme State Park would not allow the trees to be taken, so in the end they had to find some in a similar place.
He retired in 1978 and continued to consult with Diseny until his death in 1993.  He was honored with a Disney Legend award in 1991.  You can find Ken Anderson's Bait Shop window on main street.

Snow White's Scary NEW Disney World Adventure - Demolition!

Today I opened my Google reader and was bombarded with news from the Official Disney Blog (and 2719 Hyperion, The Disney Blog, The Laughing PlaceGDP, Disney and More).  The new Fantasyland has even more in store for us!
The previous announcements had made Fantasyland sound like 'princess' land (It is still pretty heavy in that direction).  It seemed everything was coming up princess - Ariel, Belle, Briar Rose...but nothing for the first and "fairest of them all."
Until now - sort of.
The new Fantasyland has new plans include a seven dwarf mine train.  According the the official Disney Blog: "The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train will take you on a rollicking, musical ride into the mine “where a million diamonds shine.” The coaster will feature a first-of-its kind ride system with a train of ride vehicles that swing back and forth as they whisk along the track. The journey will be accompanied by music from the classic Disney film and animated figures of Snow White and the Dwarfs."
In addition, Snow White's Scary Adventure will be removed and in place a permanent meet and greet with the princess will go there: Princess Fairytale Hall. (No word when this will close but I am glad I went to Disney World this December to say goodbye - even though I didn't know it at the time).
So I'll accept that changes must be made to create the new and say great!  I can't wait to see it.
Just don't touch Disneyland's Snow White's Scary Adventure -
