If you are reading this blog, there's a good chance you are a Disney collector like me. Over the years, I've fallen into the trap of, do I have that item? Did I buy that one? How did I end up with two of these?
I've tried making photo albums, but those are not easy to carry around. I have found that using Google as a platform for logging my collection has been the best idea I've ever had!
Years ago, I had to move my entire collection into storage for some time. Being a nervous Nelly, I decided that I needed a log of every item I was putting into storage. I made a spread sheet of every item in each box. I also took a picture of each item.
Fast forward ten years later, I realized I could digitize those pictures and then converted my spreadsheet to a Google Sheet.
Now I can access my files in Google Drive. Here is a look at my collection file:
Each file contains pictures of all of the items I have. The image has an identifying number that matches to my spreadsheet:
My Google Sheet has lots of room for improvement, but here's a peak:
The best benefit is that I can share these among all my Google accounts and can pull up my file no matter where I am (especially handy when at a collectible show sale). I have also been able to share the file with others as I need to. A great benefit when loved ones see something on eBay they want to get me.
Every few months I take some time to photograph new items, upload them to the correct folders, and make sure I have added details to the Google Sheet. As of a few weeks ago, I have logged 2,149 items, so that's not too shabby!
I'm very impressed! I also am a Snow White And The Seven Dwarfs collector. I guess almost 30 years now, wow! I'm not sure I would know where to start logging my collection. Of course this year with the 80th Anniversary it's just adding more to it, and subtracting from my bank account! I know you can relate. I love seeing all your pictures of your collection! Been enjoying your blog for several months now. Happy collecting!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much. I'm so glad you enjoy the blog. I completely understand about dwindling bank accounts and with the 80th anniversary approaching there is even more trouble ahead for that!
DeleteI'm starting to see the 80th anniversary items more and more. Looks like lots will be released.
DeleteI am looking for some of the collector coins from the 1987 50th anniversary Snow White set. 1/10 oz gold. Aside from ebay and google searches does anyone have an idea where I might find some? I am trying to fill out a set. I’m trying to find collector sites where I might see some of these. Thank you.
ReplyDeleteEbay really does seem the easiest way to go no days. There still are Disney collectables show sales and that would be a good way to get in touch with dealers who focus on Disney collectables. Try looking at the Disneyana Fan club for branches near you.
