Learning at Home: Snow White and Seven Dwarfs

Hello!
Well, I certainly have been neglectful of the blog during this last year, but in light of the current state of things and lots of newly found free time for me, I am planning on making sure to post more often.

I am in education and find myself without a class to teach.  My favorite pastime, going to Disneyland, is also not an option.  It got me to thinking, what is out there that can support at home learning with a Disney twist?  Hence I will be starting a new series: At Home Learning. These are not meant to be a specific grade but rather more geared to the family who loves Disney who wants to spend some time together.

The first topic is of course: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs

Decor for day: Disney Family website has so many wonderful things on it. I thought this adorable whistle While You Work Sign is the cutest idea to hang in your 'homeschool' area to remind yourself and the kiddos that learning is fun! https://family.disney.com/craft/whistle-while-you-work-sign/

Imagineering: Exercise 1: Your own land. This amazing resource from Khan academy and Disney looks like it will be so much fun! I think the adults will have a blast participating as well. https://www.khanacademy.org/humanities/hass-storytelling/imagineering-in-a-box

Art: I love this 3D paper craft of Snow White. It can be frustrating to put together with all the folds and glue, probably best for older kids. https://family.disney.com/craft/snow-white-3d-papercraft/

Math: This recipe from Disney Family website looks like so much fun. Pie making lends itself to so much math: measurements - figuring out diameter, where to best cut dough to fit the most circles, creating a template, and fractions (for example, don't use the correct size measuring cups - have kids use other sizes that have to add up to amount). https://family.disney.com/recipe/seven-little-pies/

Writing: This wacky Evil Queen Mother's Day card?!? is perfect for kids to write a card to their mom: https://family.disney.com/craft/evil-queen-mothers-day-pop-up-card/

Reading: Read or listen to the story of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs: https://princess.disney.com/snow-whites-story

Science: I love Wonderopolis. While this isn't Disney, it has great articles and with the whole - spoiler alert - poison apple plot twist in Snow White - this might be fun to check out. http://wonderopolis.org/wonder/can-one-bad-apple-spoil-the-bunch

Engineering: Can your design an instrument to play with the Silly Song? https://www.learningliftoff.com/make-homemade-music-with-these-6-diy-instruments/

Of course, I would end the day with a family viewing of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs!

Toms' Snow White Shoes

I am loving all these Disney collaborations!  Last month Toms Shoes joined the list.  There were several wonderful options for adults!  I really loves these shoes because they actually use the concept art!

Here are two of the shoes I picked out.  Aren't they great!

I couldn't get a good picture of the window display but here is the window from the inside.

Disney World Snow White News

Disney Parks Blog announced that Artists Point at the Wilderness Lodge is scheduled to become a Snow White themed character meal this winter!  Guests will get to meet Snow White, Grumpy, Dopey and the Evil Queen.   While finding Snow White is not that hard in a Disney Park, finding the dwarfs is not easy and usually requires a special event.  This is a great opportunity for Snow White fans!  No word on actually dates yet, but be sure to keep an eye out!

Snow White's 80th Patterns

As I was out looking for patterns to make my Halloween costume (is it just me, or does it get earlier every year?) I happened upon some fabulous adult patterns that featured Snow White!
This traditional costume is just what every girl needs for Halloween.  Pattern was 9.99 at Walmart, craft stores are more expensive but look for a sale.

This pattern is the one I was thrilled to find.  Isn't this outfit adorable?  I think it would be great to wear at a D23 Expo! A period inspired Snow White!

Of course, the little ones weren't left out.  Note there isn't a logo for the 80th anniversary on this pattern.

Typo Celebrates Snow White's 80th

I went in my first Typo store in the Spectrum Center in Irvine, California and I fell in love!  At the time, they had an adorable Mickey Mouse line and the To-Do list pad I bought is still a staple at work for me.

Dark Fairy Tale

There have been so many designers who have teamed up with Disney in the last few years.  Coach has done a few Mickey and Minnie themed lines and has now released a line called "A Dark Fairy Tale."  The line features iconic images from Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs like the posion apple:

DISNEY X COACH POISON APPLE TOTE

However the line also features a less iconic imagine: what Coach is calling "Spooky Eyes."  These eyes show up as Snow White is fleeing from the forest.

DISNEY X COACH DUFFLE 20 WITH SPOOKY EYES PRINT

It turns out that these eyes are really just the forest animals checking out the frightened Snow White, but they sure do look spooky!

The line also features this image:

The crow ends up falling into the skull after being frightened in the Queen's dungeon:

This is the box!  It's amazing!

The wood grain print that mimics the dwarfs cottage is an amazing touch.

Even the tissue paper has the seven dwarfs on it!

Snow White Shirt from Germany, Epcot's Germany that is

While on my recent trip to Disney World, I saw a new Snow Whit shirt I hadn't seen in the very back of one of the stores in the German pavilion in Epcot.  I actually was going to pass it by when I noticed that it said Snow White, in German!

The front

A cute touch to the back of the shirt

Not headed to Disney World any time soon?  It's on the Shop Disney Parks App!

Harvey's x Snow White Release

Last Saturday I drove to Santa Ana to Harvey's flagship location for the Snow White release!  I was very impressed with how organized the event was and there wasn't a very long wait at all.  The staff was so kind and many of them were Disneybounding as Snow White - so cute!

The shop window looked so cute with the Snow White logo

The red handkerchief was the gift with purchase.  The Dopey backpack is one of the wonderful new pieces.  They also brought back the poison apple bag from the Villains line for this release.

Love, Love, Love this print!  The small one is a zippered pouch and the large gym bag style tote is the best!
I thought I was going to be picking up this purse and wallet, but I ended up falling for some of the other pieces.  All three of the Snow White pieces are lined in adorable dwarf print!

Limited edition pins - each cost $12.  Behind the pins is the Snow White book - but it's actually a cross body bag!
My purchases - the gym bag and the book tote.  (underneath those are the pins, of course!)

Celebrate Snow White's 80th

Today is Snow White's 80th Birthday!

If you are near NYC - it would seem to be the perfect day to head out and see the Snow White windows at Saks Fifth Ave.  If you can't make it yourself, check out this article.

If you're reading this blog, you must love Snow White as much as I do and are naturally planning a screening for tonight.  To help out with the festivities, here are some links to projects to help you plan your perfect Snow White Viewing Party.  (See even more ideas on Disney Family)
Make some apple treats with Disney Family.

Perfect project to make while watching!
Regardless on how you celebrate, it is remarkable to think that it was 80 years ago today that the members of the Disney Studio eagerly awaited feedback on their remarkable undertaking.  May we all have the courage to follow our dreams no matter what others may say.

Happy Birthday Snow White!

November News and Updates

So much going on this month!  Snow White's 80th is right around the corner and our gal seems to be popping up all over!

LuLaRoe announced new princess styles and My Fairy Tale life posted a few of the new fabrics...look out wallet!

One of my big holiday bucket list items is to go to New York to see the window displays.  If only I had choose this year! Chip and Company, Disney Style, and E News covered Saks Fifth Avenue's big new window displays.  Did you catch the live stream of the grand unveiling?  They have merchandise as well....I'm holding out for the $5,000 purse.  How about you?

Was anyone wandering in Central Park and saw this photo shoot taking place?  Yup, Snow, the prince, and the dwarfs were running around Central Park in New York City.

Check out this video on Snow White's style and the designer dresses made for Saks Window!

WDW for Grown Ups put together a gift guide for Snow White fans...so many things to choose from!

Any Disney's Magic Kingdom fans out there?  The next character release in the game must be Snow White!  Check out the speculation about what will show up.

A beautiful print was released this month at Mondo Con.

I have no idea what to cook in it, but I need a Le Cruset Snow White apple dish!

Japan gets all the best toys!  Check out this Snow White tsum tsum set complete with Hag and Prince.

Think Geek has this great new purse...you can never have too many purses...right?

The Besame Snow White line has been released.  I talked with these gals at the D23 expo and I was so impressed on the accuracy of their colors.  Very well done.

Check out the pictures from the Bristol Post where Snow White is being advertised.

This goes into the category of who thought of this?!?  Check out this video of Thanksgiving leftovers being created into 'art'.

Here is a profile on another Snow White collector!  How awesome!

Snow White 80th Anniversary Funko Pops

Funko announced in August that they would be releasing a full set of Pops to celebrate Snow White's anniversary in 2017 - the big 80!

Funko has previously released some Pops of Snow White, Grumpy, and the Evil Queen:
Evil queen number 42 - from 2012.  There was also a Grumpy in this series (number 46).  Sadly I don't have this.

Key chain version of Evil Queen

A miniature Evil Queen sold in a set with Ursula and Maleficent.  There was also a set of the evil queen and Snow and Snow and Grumpy.

One of the first in the Disney series from the Disney Store - Snow White - from 2011

The new series has all seven dwarfs plus a Grumpy variant and Dopey chase, two Snow White variants, and the Hag.  For those in the 'know'  a variant is a Pop that is available only at particular stores (Toys R Us, Books a Million, and Hot Topic in this case).  The chase is a tricky thing to land because it is randomly sent in boxes and stores don't know if they are going to get them.

I had to the witch - she is so well done!

The Hot Topic exclusive - the Snow White Diamond edition.  Very well done and I am grateful to Hot Topic's local instagram feed for posting when they arrived so I could put one on hold!

The Toys R Us exclusive - I love this so much! I haven't found her...yet.

This is the one that will drive collectors crazy!

Box Lunch Gifts

Box Lunch gifts is one of my favorite pop culture stores.  They always have such a great array of Disney items.  I went into one of the stores earlier this month and saw the best evil queen purse I've seen in awhile:

I had to go home and see what else they had on the website.  I was pleasantly surprised at all the Snow White merchandise available!
